Yes, they can be mounted to a variety of roof racks, rails, baskets etc. Mine is mounted to a round bar roof basket with no issues.It will come with a manual that explains the 3 main mounting options, & option 2 is for round bar mounting.

It depends on what mounting options you have, you need rails or a rack to mount it to, unless you are willing to directly mount it to the roof.

If you have a roofrack or cargobasket you can mount on your crossbars by drilling a hole.

The rail for these type awnings (ARB, SmittyBilt, Yescom are all the same) capture 1/4" x 20 bolt-heads in a slot. What this means is you need access to the threaded portion of the bolt to affix a nut. If you cannot thru-bolt through the side of the shed, get a length of aluminum or steel C-Channel and attach that to shed, then drill holes for the 1/4"x20 bolts. Use of C-Channel allows you to attach the nuts.
